A social network app to share experiences, itineraries, and photos with other enthusiasts
FaceRent is a social networking service that allows users to share photos of their faces and appreciate the diversity of human beauty. This article explores how an admiration for human beauty can inspire the development of a new picture-based app.
We developed an app similar to Instagram where users can share photos and follow their friends' updates. We developed two native apps for iOS and Android using Swift and Kotlin, respectively. The implementation of the server-side was one of the most thrilling tasks. The app did not involve any complex backend logic, so we decided to use the popular cloud database Firebase for quicker and easier implementation without compromising on system fault tolerance. Firebase also enables us to implement metrics that are used in analyzing user behavior and listening to the target audience.
In addition to posting and rating publications, users can also buy and sell, thereby assembling entire collections. All in-app purchases are done with our implemented currency, Rents. It sounds like the description of an NFT marketplace, but everything is a little simpler in FaceRent.
However, when we tried to put the app on the App Store and Google Play, we ran into an obstacle. The App Store rejected the app because the moderators were concerned that FaceRent might contain offensive content. To solve this, we added moderation and complaint modules to the app. Now, any content posted on the social networking service is first sent to our Telegram bot, where we can examine the photo before it can be published or rejected.
